Flower Mound Family Dentistry Offers IV Sedation for Use During Tooth Extraction Procedures

Third molar extractions, or wisdom tooth extractions as they’re more commonly called, are extremely common. They also strike fear into the hearts of many of those who need the procedure. That’s why Flower Mound Family Dentistry offers wisdom tooth extractions (as well as the extraction of other teeth) that can be performed under the influence of IV sedation.

What are the reasons you might need a tooth extracted? Wisdom teeth often need to be extracted because there is not enough room for them to fully erupt properly, which can cause them to grow sideways, push other teeth out of alignment, or become impacted. Other teeth may need extraction because they’ve become so infected that treatment is not possible, they’ve been broken beyond repair, or to make room for teeth to be repositioned through orthodontic treatment.

Most tooth extractions are performed using a local anesthetic, meaning the site from which the tooth will be extracted is numbed using an injection. This is perfectly adequate for pain relief, but it may not work for patients who are either somewhat immune to the numbing effects of local anesthetic or have extreme dental anxiety. If you’re interested in having a tooth extraction procedure performed with the use of IV sedation, contact our Flower Mound dental office today to discuss this option.

Once a tooth or several teeth have been extracted, you may be in need of tooth replacement or dental implants. Flower Mound Family Dentistry can help you through this process as well.
