Nothing is more precious to you than your child. Dr. Amin and Dr. Mathew (moms themselves) understand how important it is that we provide your child with excellent dental care with a gentle touch. When Should My Child Start
Seeing the Dentist?
We can begin children’s dental care as early 18 months. During your child’s first visit, we will count their teeth and perform a gentle cleaning. As they age, we can provide dental sealants to protect against cavities (children tend to take some time learning to be truly thorough with their oral hygiene routines, so they need a little extra help keeping decay to a minimum). We will also provide your child with guidance regarding brushing, flossing, and nutritional choices that support optimum oral health.
Dental Checkups & Cleanings
Your child should start attending regular checkups starting around 18 months old, but before that, we recommend bringing them to one of your own appointments here at Flower Mound Family Dentistry so they can start getting used to the sights, sounds, and faces of our dental office. For their own appointments, we’ll make sure they’re comfortable from day 1, and we’ll work to protect them from cavities while instilling healthy habits that will serve them well into adulthood.
The deep grooves of the back teeth are the first place most children will develop cavities, but dental sealants offer an easy way to prevent this from happening. We simply place a thin layer of dental plastic over these teeth, literally sealing them off from food debris, bacteria, and plaque that could lead to decay. They take minutes to apply without any drilling but can easily last for 10 years or more.
Whether your child just started T-ball or is already a star on their school’s basketball/football team, they should definitely wear a mouthguard whenever they go to play. This will keep their teeth, gums, and lips safe from sudden impacts with equipment or other players! Rather than having your child wear a bulky, one-size-fits all appliance from the store (and inevitably “losing” it), we can give them a custom-made mouthguard that fits comfortably and offers the kind of protection that helps you breathe easy from the sidelines.
